Defensive end Alex Harbin ( Cincinnati, OH/Elder) returned an interception 56 yards for a touchdown, and teammate Kevin Koch (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) kicked the PAT with 11:46 remaining in the first quarter, to give the Mount a 7-0 lead today, but the Lions were unable to sustain their momentum, as they dropped their NCAA Division III Playoff game at Wabash College, 31-21. The Lions end t their season with a 9-2 mark while Wabash moves on to the next round of the playoffs with a 10-1 record.
This is the fourth straight season the Lions have made the post-season playoffs and are 0-4 in the playoffs.
Vince Palmer (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) tossed a five-yard scoring pass to tight end Bobby Poweski (Warren, OH/Warren JFK) - and Koch converted another PAT kick - to knot the game at 14-all with 5:53 left in the first half. Wabash, behind two TD runs by Brock Graham, and a field goal, scored 17 unanswered points to go ahead 31-14 with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) added the last score of the game, when he raced in from 13 yards out with 10:46 left in the game. The Lions had the ball for one more possession after that, moving the ball to their own 48-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.
Palmer was 13-of-25 for 97 yards, one TD and two interceptions. He was also sacked four times. Tyrone Jones (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) led the Mount with 56 yards rushing while Jonathan Burrell (Louisville, KY/Seneca) had four receptions. Kyle Prosser (Oak Hills) led all players with 12 tackles while teammate Rocky Siegel (Cincinnati, OH/Glen Este) and Ricky Stautberg (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) had 11 tackles each. Phil Poetter (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) had an interception while Harbin added a sack.
