Mount runs record to 2-0 with a 20-0 victory at Lakeland (WI) College

Vince Palmer (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) tossed two touchdowns and ran for another as the Mount blanked Lakeland (WI) College on the road today, 20-0. The Lions (2-0) are idle this coming weekend and will return to action on Sept. 27 when they host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on John Pont Tribute Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Palmer tossed a six-yard TD pass to fullback Ben Widolff (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) in the first quarter to get the Lions on the scoreboard. The Lions' senior quarterback raced in from eight yards out with 6:09 to play to put his team up 13-0 before finding receiver Derick Tabar (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) on a 30-yard TD pass play with just under five minutes left in the game to close the scoring.

The Lions defense was stout throughout the game, holding the Muskies to 23 yards rushing and 108 yards passing in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Lakeland quarterback Billy Hughes was 12-for-40 and threw four inteceptions, while also being sacked four times. Rocky Siegel (Cincinnati, OH/Glen Este) led the Mount with 14 tackles while teammate Patrick Truster (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) had two sacks. The Mount also forced and recovered three Lakeland fumbles.

Offensively, Tyrone Jones (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) had 44 yards rushing to lead the Mount ballcarriers, while Palmer finished 13-of-27 for 186, two TDs and two interceptions. Tabar had a team-high three receptions for 45 yards.
