Box Score Craig Mustard (Mason, OH/Mason) tossed two long scoring passes in the second quarter today to receiver Derick Tabar (Cincinnat, OH/Colerain), and the Lions rolled up 14 first downs and 310 total yards in the opening half as they won handidly at home over Lakeland (WI) College, 42-19. The Mount (2-0) is idle next week and returns to action on Sept. 26 when they open HCAC play at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) got the Lions' on the scoreboard first with a three-yard run at the 7:09 mark in the first quarter. Mustard's two TD passes - 65 yards to Noah Joseph (Roswell, GA/Blessed Trinity) and 61 yards to Tabar - built the lead to 21-0 in the second half after Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) converted the PAT kicks.
Tabar and Mustard hooked up again with 59 seconds left in the second quarter - on a 27-yard pass play - to give the Mount a huge lead at the half.
The Lions held Lakeland to 47 yards rushing in the first half and eight first downs in opening up a 28-7 advantage. The Mount, which substituted freely throughout the second half, got rushing TDs from Davis and Brandon Brown (Atlanta, GA/Westlake) in the second half to race ahead, 42-13.
Davis finished with 64 yards rushing in 17 attempts as the Lions recorded 121 yards on the ground in the game. Mustard was 23-of-35 passing, for 359 yards and three touchdowns. Brad Sersion (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) hauled in a game-high eight passes while Tabar had six receptions for 144 yards and two scores.
Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had a game-high 12 tackles to lead the Lions.
The Mount finished with 21 first downs and 80 yards of total offense.
