Mount wins season opener by posting a 27-18 win at Wilmington College

Craig Mustard (Mason, OH/Mason) threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a score, as the Lions rolled to a 27-18 2009 opening game win at Wilmington College. The Lions, 1-0, will return to action on Sept. 12 when they host Lakeland (WI) College at Schueler Field at 1:00 p.m.

Mustard and Derick Tabar (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) hooked up for two TDs in the first half - and Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) converted two extra points PATs, as the Lions led by a 14-12 margin at the half. Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) raced in from two yards out late in third quarter to give the Mount a 20-12 advantage before Mustard added a one-yard TD plunge with 1:19 left. Weimer capped the scoring in the game with his third PAT after the Mustard scoring run. Wilmington had cut the Lions' lead to 20-18 with 2:11 remaining in the game with a 55-yard TD pass play.

Davis finished with 131 yards rushing while Tabar led all receivers with five receptions for 133 yards. MIke Zies (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) hauled in four passes for 56 yards. Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) led all defenders with 16 tackles, including a forced fumbled while teammate Vince Smith (Middletown, OH/Middletown) had ten stops for the Mount.

The Lions out-gained the Quakers in total yardage, 450-318.
