Lions drop Bridge Bowl game to Thomas More College, 33-0

Host Thomas More College rolled up 451 yards of total offense, while holding the Mount to 127 yards, en route to a 33-0 win today in the Bridge Bowl game. The Lions end 2010 season action with a 5-5 mark, marking their ninth straight season of holding a .500 or better record.

The Saints grabbed a 23-0 lead at the half by effectively running and passing the ball, and stopping the Lions' offensively throughout the first 30 minutes of play. Thomas More had 217 total yards at the half to the Mount's 32 yards, and held the Lions to one-of-eight on third down conversions. Thomas More scored in the first half with two rushing TDs, a passing TD and a field goal. Their defense was particularly tough against the Lions' rushing attack, holding them to 12 carries and minus four yards on the ground. The Mount, which punted six times in the first half, was hindered as well by nine penalties in the opening half.

Thomas More scored their final 10 points of the game in the third quarter, and kept the Mount out of the end zone by forcing four Lions' punts and intecepting two passes in the second half. The Lions longest drive of the day came on their final possession when they went 33 yards. Thomas More held a 27-8 advantage in first downs.

Chris Howland (Loveland, OH/Loveland), who started and was one of four quarterbacks used by the Mount in the game, finished 10-of-22 for 53 yards and an interception. Zachary Gerber (Payne, OH/Wayne Trace) and Jimmy Dan Conners (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had three receptions each. James Clay (Louisville, KY/Manual Dupont) had eight carries for 30 yards.

Joseph Howard (Cincinnati, OH/Hughes) led the Mount with 10 tackles while Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) chipped in nine stops. Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA/Westlake) recorded an interception, and teammates Colton Tygrett (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) and Russell Turner II (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) each had a sack.
