Lions' women's basketball team falls to 0-3 with a 75-44 loss at Centre College

Box Score

Host Centre College jumped out to a 40-19 lead at the half, thanks in part to a defense that forced 15 Mount turnovers, en route to a 75-44 win tonight over the Lions. The Mount, 0-3 on the season, resume action on Nov. 27 when they open HCAC season play at Hanover College.

Kat O'Neill (Burlington, KY/Conner) hit a three-pointer to open the scoring in the game, but Centre employed an opportunistic and stifling defense, forcing turnovers, defending well against shots and driving ahead for lay-ups, rolling out to leads of 26-10 and 33-16 in the first half. Their largest advantage in the first 20 minutes of play was 22 points, as they held a 21-point halftime lead.

The Mount was out-shot 62 to 26 from the field in the first half. The Lions would get no closer than 20 points early in the second half as the Colonels raced out again to a large lead, 75-44, with 8:27 to play. Centre finished the game hitting on 58 precent from the field, comparted to the Lions' 26 percent shooting. The Mount was five-of-20 from three-point land while Centre was seven-of-15 from three-point range. The Mount won the battle of the boards, 37-29 and made more free throws, nine to six, but committed 27 turnovers to Centre's 18 miscues.

O'Neill led the Mount with 15 points, as her team's only double-figure scorer in the game. Katie Jo Collins (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) had a game-high 10 rebounds.
