Jenkins Named HCAC Defensive Player of the Year, Among Three Lions Honored by League

CARMEL, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team landed three players on post-season All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) teams, announced by the league today. Including taking hoem one of the league's marquee awards.

Morgan Jenkins was selected as the HCAC's Defensive Player of the Year, along with being a second-team all-league selection. Jenkins has been a stat sheet stuffer during her career at the Mount while often drawing the Lions toughest defensive assignment. For the year the senior averaged 5.9 rebounds per game, 1.3 steals and just under a block a game. She was also the team's second leading scorer and assister at 11.8 points and 3.5 assist per game while playing the eighth most minutes in the HCAC this season.

"Morgan is our anchor on the defensive end of the floor. She a big reason as to why we lead the league in defensive field goal percentage and hold our opponents under 60 points per game" Said Coach Maisie Elston. "She draws draws the assignment of the oppositions best scorer and has the ability to guard one thru four. I am so proud of Morgan, she takes so much pride in her role with us defensively and is so deserving of this honor."

Fellow senior Karlee Mills earned first-team All-HCAC honors for the first time in her career after three consecutive season's as a second-team selection. Mills led the Lions in scoring this year at 15.2 ppg which was good for fifth best in the HCAC this year. She also led the team with 2.5 steals per game, and added 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists. 

Freshman Sam Price finds her name on two separate lists today after being named to the newcomer team and an honorable mention all-league selection during her first year at The Mount. In her first season she averaged 8.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and an HCAC best 1.9 blocks per game. 

Jenkins, Mills and Price along with their teammates will take to the court on Friday at 1:00 PM in Lexington, Ky. looking to extend their season and play for an HCAC Championship on Saturday.
