The College of Mount St. Joseph fell behind by 19 points at the half today at Hanover College before eventually falling to the Panthers, 94-64. The Lions, 0-4 overall, 0-1 in the HCAC, will be back in action on Dec. 1 when they host HCAC-foe Bluffton University.
The Panthers out-scored the Mount, 24-8 in the paint in the first half, and 18-8 off turnovers, as they out-shot the Mount 46 to 33 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes of action. The Lions would close the margin to 10 points, 60-50, with 12:43 left in the game, after a three-pointer by Brittany Sparks (Solsberry, IN/Eastern Greene). Hanover, however, doubled their lead over the next 4:20, rolling out to a 72-52 advantage. The Panthers utilized another strong half of play with their inside game, as they shot 55 percent from the field, and an opportunistic defense.
The Lions committed 23 turnovers in the game, and forced 15 Hanover mistakes, while making 41 percent of their shots, including nine-of-19 from behind the three-point arc. Shelbi Benzinger (Covington, KY/Scott) led the Mount with 12 points, all on three-pointers, while Chelsey Doellman (Union, KY/Ryle), chipped in 11 points, and Tricia Siemer (Cincinnati, OH/Seton), added 10 points. Carolyn Holt (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Mount, who were out-rebounded, 42-27.
