The Mount dropped to 0-4 in the HCAC tonight when they suffered a 65-61 setback to conference-rival Hanover College. The Lions, 2-8 overall, will play next on Dec. 21 at Division I Ball State University.
The Lions jumped out to a 30-25 lead at the intermission against the Panthers, thanks to out-shooting their opponents 48 to 43 percent from the field. Hanover also struggled from the free throw line in the first half, connecting on only six-of-13 attempts from the line. The Panthers would tie the game at 33-all with 17:13 to play in the game, and jump out to a 41-33 advantage by the 14:29 mark of the second half. The Mount's Ben Haarman (Cincinnati, OH/St. Bernard) forced the fourth tie of the game with 4:55 to play when he hit a three-point shot but after the sixth tie of the game moments later, the Panthers would take control of the game down the stretch leading to the win. Hanover's Mike Case converted a lay-up with 37 seconds remaining to put his team up 63-61.
Haarman finished with a game-high tying 17 points while David Mann (Hamilton, OH/Cincinnati Christian) added 16 points. Jeremy Wessels (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hils) added 11 points and five rebounds while Matt Wester (Dayton, OH/Dayton Christian) chipped in 10 points. Hanover out-shot the Mount 62 to 37 percent from the field in the second half, and was 17-for-30 from the line to the Lions' eight-of-13 from the charity stripe in the game. The Mount won the battle of the boards, 30-26.
