Mount women's basketball teams posts second straight HCAC win with a 42-39 triumph over Anderson University

Brittany Sparks (Solsberry, IN/Eastern Greene) tossed in 14 points and teammate Kat O'Neill (Burlington, KY/Conner) added 13 points helping the Lions today to a 42-39 home win over Anderson University. The HCAC win ups the Mount's record to 2-4 overall, 2-1 in the conference. The Lions will resume action on Dec. 11 at HCAC-foe Manchester College.

The Mount led by three points at the half, 20-17, holding the Ravens to 21 percent shooting. Anderson would grab the lead early in the second half, and the two teams would battle for the lead throughout the final 20 minutes of play. Sparks put her team up by a 31-29 margin with 11:46 left in the game, and the Lions would go on to up their advantage to 37-29 on a jump shot by O'Neill with 6:50 on the clock. Anderson cut the deficit to 40-37 with 1:39 to play but would get no closer, scoring the game's remaining points with 46 seconds to play in the game. Anderson missed three potential game-tying three-point shots in the final 14 seconds to play.

Anderson out-rebounded the Mount, 37-27, and committed 19 turnovers to the Lions' 22 miscues, but were out-shot from the field, 39 to 23 percent, and made just two-of-13 from three-point range to the Lions' two-of-nine from long distance.
