The College of Mount St. Joseph jumped out to a three-point lead at the half, and held the advantage throughout the second half tonight, to post a 70-63 victory at home over Earlham College. The Mount, 3-8 overall, 3-2 in the HCAC will return to action on Jan. 8 when they host Defiance College.
The Lions out-paced the Quakers in nearly every important statistical category, withstanding their opponents long-range shooting abilities. Earlham College connected on 11-of-31 shots from three-point range, to the Mount's five-of-11 from long range. The Mount was out-rebounded by five boards, but held the edge on the offensive boards, 12-10. The Lions were out-shot by Earlham, 43 to 38 percent and also forced 19 Earlham turnovers while committing just 12 miscues.
Carolyn Holt (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Kat O'Neill (Burlington, KY/Conner) added 12 points, all in the second half, along with five assists while Abby LaRosa (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) chipped in nine points and eight assists. Gina Gonzales (Dearborn, MI/Father Gabriel Richard) tossed in 14 points on six-of-11 shooting.
