Mount women's basketball outmatched by Manchester College, lose 59-34

The Lions' women's basketball team falls to 2-8, 2-2 (HCAC) on the season after dropping Saturday's contest to Manchester College, 59-34. The Mount's next game comes against Brescia University on Wednesday, December 21 at 6:00PM in the Harrington Center.

The Lions got off to a rough start as the Spartans moved out to a 16-0 lead before the Lions put their first point on the board at the 10:46 mark with a free throw from sophomore guard Erica Miknius (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills). The Mount made a push to get back in the game getting the score as close as 18-7 before Manchester made another run to regain their commanding lead. The Lions went into halftime down 27-14. The Mount shot 3-24 (12.5%) from the floor and was outscored 22 points to six in the paint. Senior forward Katie Jo Collins (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) led the Mount at half with four points and four rebounds.

The Spartans put the pressure on the Lions starting the second half much like the first with a 22-4 run in the first 11 minutes of the half giving them a 31 point lead. The Lions struggled to fight their way back into the game shooting 8-25 (32%) compared to Manchester's 14-29 (48.3%) in the half. The Mount's final points come on a three-point field goal from junior guard Whitney Mueller (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin) with 2:16 remaining in the game. The Lions were outscored 22-8 in the paint in the second half.

Senior Leah Schroeder (Fairfield, OH/McAuley) scored nine of the Lions' 21 bench points and led the Mount in scoring against the Spartans. Schroeder complemented her nine points with four rebounds and three steals. Nine athletes scored for the Lions on Saturday.
