The College of Mount St. Joseph held visiting Earlham College to 31 percent shooting today as they upended the Quakers, 63-44. The Mount, 4-2 overall, 1-1 in the HCAC, will be back in action on Dec. 10 when they play an HCAC game at Anderson University.
The Lions raced out to a seven-point lead at the intermission, as they connected on five-of-nine three point attempts in the first half. David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian) led the first half charge for the Mount, firing in nine points in the opening half, as the Lions grabbed an 11-1 lead to open the game.
Lions' freshman Andy Countryman (Peebles, OH/Peebles) helped the Mount push their advantage out to 36-25 just 3:38 into the second half, scoring five points during that stretch. The Mount held a double-digit lead the remainder of the game, and led by as many as 22 points (48-26), with 9:38 left in the game. The Lions were particularly effective in the second half at the foul line, converting 11-of-13 free throws in the final 20 minutes of play. The Mount finished eight-of-18 from behind the three-point arc, compared to Earlham's four-of-17 long range shooting.
Mann and Countryman each finished with 11 points while Mann recorded a double-double (points-rebounds) as he posted 11 rebounds to help the Lions win the rebounding battle, 33-30. Clifford Cass (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Healthy) chipped in nine points, six assists and five rebounds.
