Mount women's basketball team ends 2010-11 season with 67-49 setback at Rose-Hulman

Host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology went on a 9-0 run midway through the second half to pull away in a close game, en route to a 67-49 win today over the Lions in the season finale. The Mount ends the season with a 6-18 overall mark, 6-12 in the HCAC.

Rose-Hulman held a two-point lead at the half, 23-21, despite being held to 25 percent shooting by the Mount. After the 11th tie of the game saw the two teams knotted at 39-all with 11:25 to play, the Fightin' Engineers went on a 9-0 scoring spree over the next four minutes leading to a decisive 48-39 margin. The Mount went zero-for-eight from the field during that stretch, and committed two turnovers, as Rose-Hulman was led by a balanced scoring attack. The Lions would get only to within seven points of the lead a few minutes later as the home team Fightin' Enginners ran out to a double-digit advantage.

Abby LaRosa (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) led the Mount with 13 points, while teammate Carolyn Holt (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) chipped in 10 points. Katie Jo Collins (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) led the Lions with six rebounds while LaRosa added five rebounds and five assists. Rose-Hulman out-shot the Mount, 41 to 33 percent from the field, and was 20-of-28 from the free throw line to the Lions' eight-of-10 from the charity stripe. The Mount connected on just one-of-18 shots from three-point range to Rose-Hulman's five-of-10 from long range. Rose-Hulman won the rebounding battle, 41-35.
