Mount softball team drops doubleheader at cross-river foe Thomas More College

The Lions suffered a doubleheader sweep today at the hands of Thomas More College, losing game one, 9-1 in five innings and game two, 15-7 in five innings. The Mount, which slips to 1-10 on the season, is back in action on Mar. 23 when they host Centre College in doubleheader action.

Game one against the Saints saw the Lions held hitless, and scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Harley Huston (East Palestine, OH/East Palestine). The Mount left four runners on base in the game as Thomas More scored runs in each of the four innings they batted in. Casey Brookbank (Cincinnati, IO/Deer Park) was tagged for the loss for the Lions.

Game two saw the Lions score early and often against the Saints, with the Mount holding leads of 4-2 after two innings of play and 7-2 entering the bottom of third inning. The Mount, however, would be held scoreless the rest of the game while Thomas More took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, 9-7. Brookbank had a double and two RBI in the game while teammates Katie Gregg (Walton, KY/Grant County) and Megan McCullough (Middletown, OH/Middletown) had two hits each. Gregg and Kimberly McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) had two RBI each. Katie Cohill (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) suffered the loss in relief of McElhinny.
