Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology out-scored the visiting Mount, 40-9 in the first half, thanks to out-shooting the Lions 62 to 11 percent from the field in the opening minutes of action, en route today to a 71-40 win. The Mount, 2-11 overall, 2-4 in the HCAC, will be back in action on Jan. 11 when they host conference-foe Franklin College.
The Mount grabbed a 2-0 lead against the Engineers, their only lead of the game today, but found themselves down by double-digits at the 8:43 mark after a Rose-Hulman three-pointer made the score 18-6. The Engineers were particularly effective on offense with their inside game, and defensively held the Mount to three-of-27 shooting, including zero-for-seven from three-point range. They also controlled the boards, 22-15, and forced 13 first half turnovers while committing 11 miscues.
The two teams played to an even score in the second half, as both substituted freely. All 15 Mount players saw action in the game, with nine scoring points. The Lions out-shot Rose-Hulman in the second half, 43 to 39 percent. Courtney Cole (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County) led the Mount with 11 points while Laiken Gambill (Minford, OH/Minford) came off the bench to score eight points and add five rebounds. Aimee Sickmeier (Clermont, IN/Cardinal Ritter) also grabbed five rebounds in a reserve role.
