Lions' men's basketball team drops HCAC road match-up at Earlham College, 55-37

The College of Mount St. Joseph suffered a tough game shooting the ball, connecting on only 10-of-50 field goal attempts, including making only one three-point shot in 23 attempts, as they fell this afternoon at Earlham College, 55-37. The Lions, 7-16 overall, 3-13 in the HCAC, will resume conference action on Feb. 15 when they host Franklin College.

The Mount found themselves down by a 28-19 score at the intermission at Earlham, as they made only six-of-26 shots, going zero-for-12 from long range. They jumped out to an 8-3 lead at the 15:13 mark of the opening half, but trailed by an 11-10 score at 11:11, as they scored only eight points in the remaining 8:49 of the first half. Earlham hit 46 percent from the field in the first half, and out-rebounded the Lions, 22-12.

Earlham would push their lead out to double figures early in the second half, but saw the Lions cut into their advantage. The Mount trailed by just eight points three different times in the second half, the last at 12:58 to play, when VJ Evans (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julinenne) made a lay-up to make the score Earlham, 34-26. The Lions would get no closer, as the host Quakers led by as many as 25 points in the second half (55-30, with 6:21 to play). Earlham shot 50 percent from the field in the second half.

The Lions made only four second half field goals, shooting 17 percent, and went nine-of-10 from the line. They were also one-for-11 from three-point range in the second 20 minutes of action. Earlham controlled the boards, 40-26, but committed 14 turnovers while the Lions committed only two turnovers.

Evans led the Mount with nine points while Danny Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
