Visiting Franklin College broke open a close game in the second half with 71 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes of action, as they upended the Lions tonight, 62-55. The Mount, 7-17 overall, 3-14 in the HCAC, will conclude 2011-2012 season play on Feb. 18 when they host Senior Day against Anderson University.
The Lions trailed by a 28-25 margin at the first half, as they were out-shot 50 to 39 percent from the field. The Mount stayed close by hitting three, three-pointers and turning seven Franklin turnovers into 10 points. Andy Countryman (Peebles, OH/Peebles) led the Mount in the first half with 11 points.
The Mount would cut the deficit to one point in the second half, the last at 35-34 with 16:57 to play but would get no closer as the Grizzlies pulled away thanks to a potent inside scoring attack. Franklin would lead by as many as nine points, the first time with 9:20 to play as they went on to post the win, taking the season series, 2-0.
Countryman finished with 20 points and four rebounds while teammate David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian) chipped in 17 points. David Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) had 10 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Aaron Barber (Canal Winchester, OH/Canal Winchester) recorded seven assists. Franklin out-rebounded the Mount, 29-15 but committed twice as many turnovers as the Lions, 18-9.
