Visiting Thomas More College got a varied offensive performance, and held the Lions to 45 yards passing, as they posted a 59-13 win over the Mount in the annual Bridge Bowl game on Saturday. The Lions end the season with a 6-4 mark; Thomas More improved to 9-1.
The Saints got on the scoreboard just under two minutes into action when they scored on a 45-yard pass play. The Lions bounced back to put together a shot drive just four minutes later, and saw the drive culminated with a 42-yard field goal from Shane Kelly (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin). Thomas More answered that with a rushing TD, to go up 14-3 and the Mount's Antonio Banks (Middletown, OH/Middletown) capped a 14-play, 60-yard, six minute-plus drive with a one-yard, as the Mount cut the deficit to 14-10. That, however, was the closest they would get all game.
Kelly added a 32-yard field goal with 1:09 left to play in the first half, to make the score Thomas More, 21-13, but the Saints added a late second quarter score to make the lead, 28-13 at the intermission. The Lions saw starting quarterback Caleb Watkins (Middletown, OH/Middletown) knocked out in the first half with an injury. The Saints did all the scoring in the second half, scoring three rushing TDs, a passing TD and a short field goal. The Mount had the ball for seven possessions of the second half, with four of those drives ending in punts.
Mike Williams (Cincinnati, OH/Taft) led the Mount with 69 yards rushing while Banks added 55 yards rushing. Wakins and Williams combined to complete seven-of-16 passes for 45 yards. Leonard Riston (Cincinnati, OH/Withrow) and Denzell Norvell (Dayton, OH/Thurgood Marshall) each had three receptions. Judge Love (Louisville, KY/Ballard) and Brent McCleerey (Mooresville, IN/Monrovia) each had a game-high eight tackles, while Love added an interception. Marvin Draper (Coluimbus, OH/Whetstone) also had an interception.
Thomas More College had 27 first downs to the Mount's 16 first downs, and held a 579-220 advantage in total yards. The Lions had the ball 36:06 while the Saints had possession, 23:54.
