Lions' men's basketball team registers an 84-66 home win over Franklin College

The Mount Lions hosted Franklin College on Saturday afternoon where they posted a victory against the conference rivals by a score of 84-66.

Franklin College started off quick with back-to-back, three-pointers, but the Lions bounced back fast by going on a 17-0 run. The score evened out around the seven minute mark at, 20-20. The Mount then took the lead with a free throw from Joel Scudder (Greedale, IN/South Dearborn) in which was kept for the rest of the game.

Scudder played a big part in the win with a total of 21 points and three steals, which all led to a basket. He also had three assists on the night and added a pair of rebounds. His final shooting percentage for the night was at 50% where he also had two, long range three-pointers. In addition, Scudder also went five-of-six from the free throw line, all of which came in the first half.

The Lions finished from the free throw line with a total of 10 free throws made and only three missed. As a team, they also shot just under 60% from the field in the win, and only allowed Franklin to shoot 45.7% from the field. The Mount held their opponent to only 28 points in the first half.

Another big contributor in the win against the Grizzlies was forward Mark Allen (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest). Allen led the team in points and rebounds. He ended the game with 23 points and six rebounds. Allen attempted and made one three-pointer in the game. He ended up shooting 71% from the field with a total of 10 made shots and only four misses.

Travis Combs (Manchester, OH/Manchester) shot 100% from the field, firing in four field goals, one of which was a three-pointer. He also finished with three rebounds.

With this win, the Lions boosted their record to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the HCAC. The Franklin Grizzlies fell to 0-8 and 0-3 in the conference. The Mount returns to play on Dec. 18 at Albion College.
