The Mount trailed by 12 points at the half, but went on a 33-16 run to start the second half, grabbing the lead on Saturday en route to a 79-60 win at HCAC-rival Earlham College. The Lions maintain their tie atop the conference standings with Defiance College (5-1) while winning their fourth straight game. The Mount, 10-3 on the season, returns to action on Jan. 14 at Hanover College.
Earlham rolled out to a 38-26 advantage at the half, by out-shooting the Lions, 63 to 32 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. The Mount was particularly cold shooting from behind the three-point arc, making just two-of-15 attempts in the first half.
The Lions got contributions from a number of players in their early second half run, and in particular Mark Allen (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest). Bobby Murdock (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) connected on a three-pointer at 10:42 of the second half, giving the Mount a 59-44 lead. The Lions would retain their double-digit lead throughout the rest of the second half, too, as they finished off the game by hitting 13-of-15 second half free throws, and out-shooting their opponents, 53 to 30 percent from the field in the second half.
Joel Scudder (Greendale, IN/South Dearborn) led a balanced scoring attack with a game-high 21 points, adding five assists. Allen chipped in 16 points and five rebounds while Murdock finished with 15 points. Femi Thompson (Cincinnati, OH/Aiken) had 12 points and eight rebounds while Ken Kunkel (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) had eight rebounds. The Mount held Earlham to just one offensive rebound.
