Host Earlham College fired in 12, three-point field goals, while holding the Mount scoreless from behind the arc over 13 attempts, as they posted a 77-58 win over the Lions. The Mount goes to 4-9 overall, 0-6 in the conference and will return to action on Jan. 14 with a home, HCAC game against Hanover College. The win was the Quakers first in the HCAC this season, in six games.
The Quakers came out hitting baskets at a high rate in the first half, scoring a three-pointer to open the scoring and racing out to a 19-7 lead over the Mount today just 6:20 into the first half. The home team led by as many as 19 points in the opening 20 minutes of play, thanks in part to out-shooting the Lions, 50 to 35 percent from the field, including making seven-of-15 from behind the three-point arc, wjhile holding the Mount to zero-for-seven from long range. Earlham held a 44-27 lead at the intermission.
Earlham pushed its lead out to 23 points after a three-pointer at the 14:11 mark, and maintain a solid lead throughout the entire second half, as they five more three-pointers in the final half, and forced 11 Mount turnovers. The Quakers finished making 12-of-26 three point attempts. The Lions held a 41-38 rebounding edge, but committed 24 turnovers while causing 18 Earlham miscues.
Tara Dennis (Batavia, OH/Williamsburg) led the Mount with 16 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Bristyl Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) added seven points and seven rebounds. Danielle Rohrbach (Tiffin, OH/Hopewell-Loudon) chipped in eight points and six rebounds in her first start of the season.
