Lions' women's basketball team drops home conference contest against Rose-Hulman

Visiting Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology jumped out to an 11-2 lead and behind a strong rebounding and defensive effort, defeated the Lions 55-36 on Saturday afternoon. The Mount falls to 4-11 overall, 0-8 in the HCAC and will resume action on Jan. 21 at Anderson University. Rose-Hulman improves to 9-6, 5-3 with the win.

The Fightin' Engineers parlayed their quick start into a 28-11 lead with 2:29 remaining in the first half, and led 30-14 at the intermission, thanks to holding the Lions to 30 percent field goal shooting, and grabbing a 17-9 lead on the boards in the first 20 minutes of action. Rose-Hulman was also seven-of-eight from the free throw line in the first half.

The visiting squad was able to up its lead to 23 points (50-27) with two free throws at 5;24 in the second half, as they held the Lions to just around the 30 percent shooting number again. The Lions never had the lead in the game.

Tara Dennis (Batavia, OH/Williamsburg) led the Mount with a game-high 16 points, and a team-high eight rebounds. Meredith Hartfiel (Villa Hills, KY/Dixie Heights) chipped nine points while Danielle Rohrbach (Tiffin, OH/Hopewell-Loudon) grabbed five rebounds. The Fightin' Engineers bench out-scored the Lions' reserves, 25-11 in the game.
