Lions' women's basketball team loses at Franklin College

Franklin College held the Mount St. Joseph University Lions' women's basketball team to 29 percent shooting, and made 10 three-point field goals en route to a 69-50 home win on Saturday. The Lions slip to 5-12 overall, 1-9 in the HCAC and will resume action on Jan. 28 at HCAC-foe Hanover College.

The Lions scored the first points in the game, and jumped out to an early 7-3 lead, before Franklin started a comeback. The Grizzlies grabbed the lead at 8-7, at 15:42 and would make the lead double-digits just over six minutes later. Their 37-20 lead at the intermission, was aided by a strong defensive effort, holding the Lions to 32 percent field goal shooting, and a 27-14 rebounding edge in the first 20 minutes of play.

A Franklin College three-pointer 3:20 into the second half game the home team a 20-point lead. The Grizzlies' lead was never threatened in the second half, as they forced nine turnovers and held the Mount to 26 percent field goal shooting.

Tara Dennis (Batavia, OH/Williamsburg) posted team-high totals of 20 points and six rebounds for the Lions, while teammate Brilyn Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) chipped in eight points and four rebounds. The Mount converted 22-of-28 free throw attempts (79 percent) in the game.
