Mount women's basketball team suffers home loss to Earlham College

Visiting Earlham College jumped out to an 11-point halftime lead, thanks to forcing 16 first half turnovers and converting 15-of-21 free throws, and held off a late second half Mount rally to post a 76-61 victory over the Lions on Saturday afternoon. The Mount, 5-14 overall, 1-11 in the HCAC, will return to action on Feb. 4 when they host HCAC first place team Transylvania University.

The Lions got off to a 7-4 lead in the game, before the Quakers tied the score with 14:02 on the clock. Earlham would go to lead by 10 points, 19-9 by 9:10 and hold the lead the rest of the half, with the Mount trailing at one point by 15. Earlham took a 36-25 lead into the locker room at the half. The Mount, however, out-shot the Quakers 43 to 30 percent from the field in the first half, with both teams grabbing 20 rebounds.

The Lions would make a game of it early in the second half, going on a 10-4 run to open the half, cutting the deficit to 40-35 with 14:11 to play after a three-point field goal by Taylor Brown (Peebles, OH/Peebles). The Quakers would go on a run of their own, though, and pushed their advantage out to 50-35 with 10:15 left in the game. The Lions would get to within five points, 52-47, with 7:01 left in the game, but would get no closer as Earlham shot 56 percent from the field in the second half, and made 10-of-13 second half shots from the charitry stripe en route to the win.

Tara Dennis (Batavia, OH/Williamsburg) led the Lions with 13 points while Bristyl Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) chipped in 10 points. Brown had eight points, a team-high six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Brilyn Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) had five steals. THe Mount forced 16 turnovers and had 11 steals.
