Men's basketball handed first home loss by Albion

THE BASICS
Mount St. Joseph University (1-1,0-0 HCAC) lost its first game of the season to Albion College (1-0,0-0 MIAA) 70-66. The Lions were held to just 24 points in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions built an early lead with Erik Edwards scoring the game's first two baskets. MSJ kept the lead for rest of the half as Edwards went on to make a layup with 2:10 left in the half to give the Mount its largest lead at 17 points. He lead the team in scoring with 9 points.

The Lions shot 59 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line in the first half, and took a 12 point lead into the locker room.

In the second half, senior Joel Scudder hit two three pointers in the first 3 minutes to maintain the lead. Albion showed some fire, scoring 11 unanswered points to shorten the Mount lead to 1 point with 12:43 left in the half.

From that point the game remained close, with both teams trading baskets. With 4:37 left in the game, and tied at 60-60, Jordan Henry cut through two defenders for a layup to give the Lions the lead. Scudder followed, making a jump shot and expanding the lead to four. From there, Albion scored 8 unanswered points. Albion held on for the remaining minutes to get the win.

STANDOUTS
Edwards and Scudder both lead the team in scoring 15 points each. Henry lead the team in rebounds with 6 and finishing with 11 points. Travis Combs had six assists.

The Lions travel to take on Division I Wright State University on Tuesday. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
