Mount women's basketball team claims 67-52 Senior Night victory over Anderson University

The Mount Lions triumphed over the Anderson Ravens on Senior Night by a score of 67-52. All three seniors saw playing time in the game with Kiana Ellinghausen (Sunman, IN/South Dearborn) playing a total of five minutes where she scored a basket late in the game with 2:24 minutes left in the second half.

The team’s other two seniors, Brooke Mosler (Maysville, OH/St. Patrick’s) and Katie Maus (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin) played in the game’s final moments. All three seniors were honored by the team before the game.

The game started out in favor of the Mount with Bristyl Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) scoring the first five points of the game. Webb finished the night with eight points, four assists, and three steals. The Ravens came back and took the lead with 15:32 left in the first half. The Lions kept the scoring close and tied it up with a layup by Danielle Rohrbach (Tiffin, OH/Hopewell-Loudon) making it a score 30-30. Rohrbach finished with eight points on the night with six rebounds.

The Ravens, however, regained the lead by three with 28 seconds left in the first half. Meredith Hartfiel (Villa Hills, KY/Dixie Heights) hit a long three-pointer with ten seconds left in the first half to send the game into a tie at half time, 33-all. Hartfiel finished the night with 21 points, 15 of which came behind the three-point arc. She ended up tying the school record that she set last season when she hit five, three-pointers against Anderson University.

The second half was all Mount, where they shot 35.7% from beyond the three-point line and held the Ravens to shooting a 31.5% field goal percentage. Other contributors for the Mount included; freshman Emily Townsend (Moores Hill, IN/South Dearborn) who shot 60% from the field and ended with eight points and seven rebounds, Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart Academy) who finished with seven points on the night and a big three-pointer at the 12:45 minute mark of the second half to give the Lions an eleven-point lead, and Brilyn Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) who made all four of her free throws and racked up five steals and six rebounds.

The Mount Lions improved their record to 6-18 overall and 2-15 in the HCAC, with the Anderson Ravens dropping to 1-23 overall and 0-17 in the HCAC. The Mount will end 2014-15 season play on Feb. 21 with a game at HCAC-rival Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
