Box Score

The Mount St. Joseph University Lions' women's basktball team ended its 2014-2015 campaign today with a 62-47 loss at conference-rival Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Mount ends the season at 6-19 overall, 2-16 in the HCAC. The six wins, under first-year Head Coach Dan Benjamin, is the most wins for the program since the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 teams each won that many games. The Mount won three games in each of the past two seasons.

The Lions grabbed an early lead on Saturday afternoon against the Fightin' Engineers, only to see the home team knot the score at 7-all on a three-pointer with 16:25 to play in the first half. The Mount forged ahead 10-8 but saw Rose-Hulman go on a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead with just under 12 minutes left in the opening half. Rose-Hulman would built its lead to nine points a couple of times the remainder of the half, as both teams had scoreless streaks of numerous length throughout. The Fightin'' Engineers would hold a 28-25 lead at the break, thanks to converting 10-of-17 free throw attempts while the Mount was seven of nine from the line. Rose-Hulman also out-shot, 47 to 33 percent, and out-rebounded the Lions, 19-13 in the first 20 minutes of play, but committted 17 turnovers to the Mount's 14 miscues.

Brilyn Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) fired in a three-pointer for the Lions with 16:35 on the second half clock, cutting the deficit to 32-31, but the Mount would get no closer as the home team would go on a 11-0 run down to the 10:11 mark, to post a 43-31 advantage. The Fightin' Engineers were particularly effective with their inside play during that stretch, and would build their lead to 15 (52-37) by 5:59 after two more free throws. The Mount was plagued by missed shots and turnovers as they tried to get back in the game, and found themselves trailing by the double-digits the remainder of the contest.

Webb led the Mount with 14 points, and also chipped in four rebounds and three steals. Maria Sams (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) added seven points off the bench. Four different players grabbed five rebounds each for the Lions. The Mount forced 27 Rose-Hulman turnovers in the game.
