Tough second period proves costly for Lions

Box Score

LOCATION:  Harrington Center (Cincinnati, Ohio)

THE BASICS:

Mount St. Joseph (0-5) hung tough with Centre in a back-and-forth game that saw a lot of competitive play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mount St. Joseph got off to a solid start against the Colonels, ending the first quarter with the score knotted at 16-16.  The second quarter proved to be the downfall of the Lions, as they were only able to come up with 6 points in the period.  Going into halftime Mount St. Joseph trailed Centre by a score of 32-22.  The second half was closely contested for the entire duration of play.  Mount St. Joseph was able to trim their deficit to single digits several times, climbing back into the game.  However each time the Lions would go on a run the Colonels seemed to answer with a small run of their own to push the lead back to double digits.  Centre would go on to win the game 63-51.

STANDOUTS:

Lainee Studer played a phenomenal game for the Lions.  She was able to post a team-leading 14 points, while also leading Mount St. Joseph in rebounds (6), steals (5), and blocks (2).

UP NEXT:

Next the Lions will host Anderson on Wednesday as they look to pick up their first win in their conference opener.  Tipoff at the Harrington Center is set for 7:30 PM.
