The Basics:
Mount St. Joseph faced a tough test against a proven opponent in Thomas More College on Wednesday night. The two rivals took the court fresh off of weekend victories as both teams would look to stay on a roll.
How It Happened:
Thomas More came out firing in the Bridge Shootout. The Saints were burning through the nets in the first half, shooting 59.3% from the field, including a 60% clip from three-point land. Meanwhile, Mount St. Joseph opened the game very cold from the field. The normally sharp-shooting Lions were having trouble knocking down their outside shots or finding ways to penetrate the strong Thomas More defense. As the half came to a close, the Lions were shooting just 25.8% from the field and 11.8% from three-point distance. They would trail Thomas More at halftime by a score of 36-20.
The second half proved to be a very different story. Although the Lions started slow again, with about 12 minutes remaining in the game the Lions started to go on one of their typical scoring runs. The Lions trailed by as many as 18 in the second half, but as they started slicing into the Saint lead the momentum started to swing their way. Andrew Finley and Jordan Henry hit several clutch threes down the stretch to help Mount St. Joseph claw back into the fight. Late in the game, Mount St. Joseph would get the Saint lead all the way down to three points, but they could not find a way to tie the game or take the lead. After a valiant and hard-fought effort, the Lions fell to the Saints by a score of 65-62.
Standouts:
Jordan Henry was the man who kept Mount St. Joseph in the game most of the night. The only Lion with double digits, Henry dropped 21 points, while also leading the team in rebounds (7).
