THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph battled against a very competitive Defiance team on Saturday afternoon. The Lions fought their way through a very tough first two quarters of basketball to set themselves up for more hard-fought play in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After trailing for most of the first half, the Yellow Jackets made a run late in the first half to take a 29-25 lead into halftime. Coming out in the second half the Yellow Jackets continued their big run, pushing their lead to as many as 26. The Lions fought hard and had a run of their own late in the game, forcing a couple of timeouts by the Defiance squad. However, Defiance would pull away again and when the final buzzer sounded Defiance was ahead on the scoreboard by a score of 70-53.
STANDOUTS:
Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH / Little Miami) scored a team-high 17 points for the Lions on Saturday. She also led the team in rebounds (6), assists (3), and steals (2).
