Mount St. Joseph women's basketball defeats Earlham on Senior Day

THE BASICS
The Lions (9-16, 8-10 HCAC) defeated Earlham (5-20, 3-15 HCAC) 57-55 on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the No. 5 seed in the HCAC tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Meredith Hartfiel started out senior day on fire as she made two three pointers. After the first quarter the Lions trailed Earlham 17-11.

The Lions played incredible defense in the second quarter going into half only behind by two, 27-25.

The Lions came back in the third quarter with a jump shot by Hartfiel to lead to 28-27. From there, they couldn't make a shot to stay in the lead, ending the third quarter 43-39. 

Keeping it a close game throughout, Lainee Studer made a layup to take the lead 56-55. In the end, Brilyn Webb made a free throw to end the game 57-55. 

STANDOUTS
Hartfiel led the Lions with 18 points and 4 rebounds while Studer, Bristyl Webb and Ciera Phillips were right behind her with 9 points.  

Erica Walsh had 7 points and Webb finished with 5 points.

UP NEXT
The Lions travel to Transylvania on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. game in the opening round the HCAC tournament.
