THE BASICS:
In a matchup of two nationally ranked teams, a sizzling start from MSJ wasn't enough as Stevenson's potent offense and dynamic back row defense carried the Mustangs to a win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions (12-6 (4-2 MCVL) opened the match blistering hot in the first game with 10 kills on 19 attempts and four aces. The home team held the visiting Mustangs (16-5, 9-0 CVC) to just seven kills. The Lions won the set 25-14.
That would be the only game the Lions would win as attacking efficiency dropped throughout the match. Stevenson would win three straight games 25-18, 25-18 and 26-24. MSJ came up short in hitting percentage and digs. The hit Mustangs .276 for the match to the Lions .126 and had 39 digs to the Lions' 27. The Lions had more blocks (11) and aces (7).
STANDOUTS
Kevin Siemer and Jake Neiheisel each had 7 kills. Siemer added two solo blocks and 3 block assists while Neiheisel added 4 block assists and one solo. Alex Vohland had seven digs.
