Box Score

LOCATION: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, Ohio)

THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (1-3, 1-1 HCAC) returned home after spending the last two weeks on the road, and were able to defeat Manchester(0-4, 0-2 HCAC) 38-19 to move to 1-1 in HCAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The teams traded punts on their first two possessions. On their second possession Manchester created the games first scoring opportunity. As they marched the ball down to the Lions 5 yard line, but the drive stalled out and they were forced to settle for a field goal attempt. That attempt though would miss wide right.

The games first big play happened when Manchester had the ball, after a completed pass the Lions forced the games first turnover. A fumble which was scooped up by Nolan Miller and returned 17 yards to the Manchester 48 yard line. The second big play came immediately after, as Chaiten Tomlin delivered a 48 yard touchdown strike on the next play.

The Spartans answered on their very next drive with a 38 yard touchdown pass of their own. But a failed extra point saw the score stand at 7-6 in favor of the Lions.

The Lions got their second touchdown on the day on the strength of another long TD pass. This time Tomlin hit Garrett Weaver for 38 yards. Manchester added a 1 yard touchdown run late in the half to settle the half-time score at 14-13.

The Second half was dominated by the Lions, they were able to put points on the board on 4 of their 6 second half possessions.

And the defense was able to put the clamps down on Manchester, only allowing one second half score. The defense was also able to force a fumble and a turnover on downs.

Head Coach Rod Huber had this to say about his teams efforts, " We are starting to take little steps in the right direction. We ran the ball much better which opened up our passing game. And our defense continues to play better each week."
