Mount St. Joseph gets fourth consecutive win against Earlham

CINCINNATI, Ohio-- Mount St. Joseph (12-3, 7-1 HCAC) defeated the Quakers of Earlham College (5-10, 1-7 HCAC) by a score of 87-60 on Saturday to keep pace atop the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. 

Earlham would keep the game very competitive through the early going, even taking a lead with 11:28 to play in the first half. It would be the Quakers only lead of the game. The Lions regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Adam Goetz (Erlanger, KY/ St. Henry), and would not relinquish it the rest of the way. 

The Quakers would close the gap to three at 30-27 with 6:13 to play. From there though the Lions would assert their dominance, closing the half on an 11-0 scoring run. This run pushed the Lions halftime lead to 14 points, at 41-27. Goetz led the way for the Lions in the first half with 12 of his 19 points coming in the first twenty minutes. 

The second half would see the Mount continue their dominant efforts. They were able to shoot a blistering 74 percent in the second half. The Lions were led in the second half by Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, OH/ Walnut Hills) who scored 10 of his team high 20 points in the second half. 

The Lions were extremely efficient on the offensive end for the game shooting a season high 67.4 percent from the field, and 64.3 percent from behind the three point arc. They also shared the ball extremely well with 19 assists on 31 made baskets. The Lions also exerted their dominance on the glass winning the rebounding battle 29-21. 

The scoring effort for the Lions has been extremely balanced of late and it continued in this game. With four players getting into double figures for the fourth game in a row. Along with Goetz and Finley, Jake Cropper (Georgetown, OH/ Georgetown) added 10, and Jordan Henry (Lexington, KY/ Bryan Station) chipped in 13 points.

The Lions will take to the hardwood again on Wednesday, in a big HCAC match-up with Transylvania University (10-5, 4-3 HCAC). The game will tip-off at 7:30 PM in the Harrington Center.
