Lions sweep MCVL competition over the weekend after win over Benedictine

The Basics: 

The Mount St. Joseph Lions took on Benedictine in their second MCVL matchup of the weekend.  The team looked confident as they performed well on both the offense and defensive side of the net.  They were able to beat their MCVL rival in three straight sets to give them their second win of the weekend.

How it Happened:

The first set started of close with both teams keeping the score tight.  After being tied 15-15, the Lions were able to put together a run to establish a comfortable lead.  They were able to close out the set with a final score of 25-20.  In the second set the Lions trailed Benedictine for most of the time.  They kept the set close and were able to tie it up.  After being tied 22-22, the Lions were able to produce some offense and win the set after a kill from Adam Williams (Chicago, IL/ Mt.Carmel).  The final score of the second set was 25-22.  The Lions looked to end the match with a win in the third set.  They jumped out to a demanding lead and lead for the entire set.  They were able to win the match after defeating Benedictine in the final set 25-18.

Standouts:

Adam Williams lead the team offensively with 19 kills on 33 total attempts.  He had a huge performance for his team, and was a large part of the Lion's win.  On the defensive end, Joey Piazza (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/ Walsh Jesuit) and Alex Vohland (West Chester, OH/ Lakota West) both recorded 11 digs to maintain their teams dominate defensive presence.

The Lions will travel to Springfield, OH to face Wittenberg on Tuesday 3/14 at 7:30 PM.
