Lions Take Down Two MCVL Competitors

The Basics:

The Lions competed against Greenville and Fontbonne over this past weekend.  The team showed an immense amount of confidence and teamwork as they were able to take out both teams, winning against Greenville 3-1 and Fontbonne 3-0. 

Mount St. Joseph vs. Greenville:

The Lions faced Greenville in their first game of the weekend.  The game was kept close in the first set as both teams looked to improve their conference record.  After some hard fought play, the Lions were able to take the first set 25-21.  The Lions were able to carry this momentum into the next set.  They dominated to take the 2-0 lead over Greenville.  In the third set Greenville looked to get back in the game.  It was extremely competitive with the score remaining very tight.  Greenville was able to edge out the Lions to win the third set 27-25.  In the fourth set the Lions looking to finish the game.  They were victorious 25-21 in the final set to get the win over Greenville 3-1.

Mount St. Joseph vs. Fontbonne:

In the second game of the weekend for the Lions, they face Fontbonne.  In the first set, Mount St. Joseph looked confident.  They controlled the tempo and were able to win the first set 25-21.  The second set seemed to turn out similar for Mount St. Joseph.  With great teamwork the Lions were able to edge out Fontbonne to win the 25-20.  The Lions would continue to show that they can play at an intense level by completing the sweep of Fontbonne after winning the third set 25-22. This gave the Lions the win 3-0.

Standouts:

Many Lions were able to step up in these two games.  Adam Williams (Chicago, IL/ Mt. Carmel) was a huge impact, leading the team in kills in the game against Greenville. He was able to record 11 kills on 28 attempts.  Brett Cooper (Cincinnati, OH/ La Salle) was also able to make an influence in the Greenville game, recording 9 kills on 19 attempts.  In the game versus Fontbonne the Lions had some standouts as well.  Andrew Chisholm (Cincinnati, OH/ Oak Hills) lead the team with 11 kills on 18 attempts.  He was also able to record 4 blocks on the defensive end.  The defense played very well against Fontbonne.  Alex Vohland (West Chester, OH/ Lakota West) lead the team in digs with 12.

Up Next: 

The Lions will compete next in the Harrington Center gym on Friday 3/10 against another MCVL competitor in Adrian College at 7:00 PM.
