Midway through spring break trip The Lions take on The Southern Maine Huskies

Box Score

Location: Lake Myrtle Park (Auburndale, FL)

The Basics:

The Lions (6-5) squared off against the Southern Maine Huskies (3-2) this Wednesday in their fourth game of The Russ Matt Invitational. It was a barn burner between the Lions and Huskies as both teams traded the lead three times. The Mount scored 9 runs off 10 hits but came up short to the Huskies, in a final score of 10-9.

How it Happened:

The starter on Wednesday was freshman Jacob Hughes (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle), going three and two thirds an inning, allowing 7 runs off 10 hits and striking out 1. First on the board were the Huskies after a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home a run. With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Luke Bowman (Harrison, OH / Harrison) stepped to the plate and singled, driving in 2 runs. The Huskies would score 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. In the bottom half of the 3rd, the Lions would load the bases for Jose Bustamante (Austell, GA / South Cobb), who delivered a RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field. With runners on the corners, Simon Schaefer (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) would plate a run after an error by the Huskies third basemen. Darren Sackett (Loveland, OH / Loveland) would deliver in the inning with a RBI single of his own. It was the Lions most productive inning totaling 4 hits, 3 runs, and 2 men left on base. With the game tied at five, the Huskies would score two more in the 4th, and three more in the 6th. Down five, the Lions scored 1 run in the 8th off an RBI double from Nathan Hunter (Vevay, IN / Switzerland County). Closing out the last 4 innings was Wyatt Myers (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville), allowing 0 runs off 2 hits, and striking out 4. Fighting hard to the final out the Lions would score 3 more runs in the 9th, but it was not enough as the Huskies would win with a final score of 10-9.

Game balls:

It was a team effort offensively as five different guys recorded an RBI, and eight Lions reached base via a hit. Myers pitched well in relief and gave the Lions an opportunity to win late in the ball game.

Up Next:

The Lions hit the field again this Friday the 17th, as they play the Dutch of Central College in a double-header.
