CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University women's tennis team took to the court once again at the new home of the Lions, the Western Racquet Club. This time out they welcomed the Muskies of Muskingum University to Cincinnati.
The match, as is customary opened with the doubles portion of the event. The Mount took two of the three doubles matches, to take an early 2-1 lead. The number two doubles team of Erin Kallmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Kelsey Knodell (Delaware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes) rolled to a dominant 8-0 win. In number three doubles Katie Fellinger (North Bend, Ohio/Taylor) and Tessa Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) won what may have been the toughest match of the night, a tight 8-6 win.
The Lions carried a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of the match. The singles matches is where The Mount seperated themselves from the Muskies. The Lions took five of the six singles matches, with Kallmeyer, Knodell and Fellinger all continued their winning ways. Joining them on the winning side was Hannah Broermann (Okeana, Ohio/Badin) and Jessica Berger (Milan, Ind./Milan). Despite dropping her singles match Blake Nelson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Amelia), she fought back hard. She dropped the first set 6-0, showing some fight the senior gave her self a chance in the second set, finishing that set at 7-5.
The Lions will take to the court again on Saturday. The will continue Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play by welcoming the Quakers of Earlham College to Cincinnati and The Western Racquet Club. The match is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 pm.
