CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph women's tennis team got their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win of the season on Saturday, defeating the Quakers of Earlham College 8-1. The match took place at the new home of Mount St. Joseph tennis the Western Racquet and Fitness Club.
Earlham came into the match down a few players due to injury, which set the Lions up with a better than usual situation to start the match. Despite starting the match ahead, they would not need the help. The women's tennis team was dominant in this match. They took both of the doubles matches, in easy fashion. The team of Hannah Broermann (Okeana, Ohio/Badin) and Blake Nelson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Amelia) as well as Erin Kallmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Kelsey Knodell (Delaware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes) were dominant in their doubles matchup.
Nelson was the lone Lion to play both doubles and singles this week, and she would win her singles match as well. A pair of 6-0 sets, secured the win for the senior. Katie Fellinger (North Bend, Ohio/Taylor) and Tessa Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) each won their singles matches.
The Lions will head back to the court again on Wednesday as they will travel to HCAC foe Transylvania, the match is scheduled to get underway at 4:00 PM
