Box Score CINCINNATI, OHIO- The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team welcomed the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College to the Harrington Center for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday evening. The Lions got the win over the Yellow Jackets by a score of 84-78, shooting 50% from the floor.
The teams exchanged the lead multiple times throughout the first half, with neither side being able to get much of an advantage. The Lions were trailing by one with under a minute left until David Luers (Lebanon, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) hit a three with nine seconds left in the half to give them the 40-38 halftime lead. The Lions were led in the first by Luers who came off the bench scoring 11 points going a perfect two for two from beyond the arc.
The Lions led the entire second half having their largest lead at the nine minute mark by a score of 65-51. The Yellow Jackets pulled it within 5, making it 83-78 with 16 seconds left but the Lions were able to hold on for the win. The Lions were led by Cedric Woods (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scoring 12 points going two for two from beyond the arc and six for seven from the free throw line.
The difference in the game was the bench points. The Yellow Jackets had 13 bench points while the Lions received more than half of their points from their bench by getting 45 from them. David Luers (Lebanon, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and Cedric Woods (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scored more than half of these bench points helping boost the Lions past the Yellow Jackets.
