Box Score Bluffton, Ohio- The Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Bluffton University to play the second game of a weekend double header against the Beavers. Last night the Lions defeated the Beavers in an overtime thriller by a score of 72-69. This game saw much of the same, as it was yet again a tightly contested game. The Saturday rematch saw the Mount sweeping the weekend series with a 61-55 win.
The 1st Quarter of the game saw another hot start for the Lions offense. Chloe Jansen (Fort Thomas, KY./ Highlands) opened the scoring with an early 3 pointer, the following possession Kamryn McCool (Brookville, IN./ Franklin County) sank another 3-point bucket to extend the Mount lead to 6-2. The Mount was able to extend their early lead to end the 1st with an 18-11 lead. The 2nd Quarter saw the Lions get outscored 20-15, the only time that the Beavers were able to gain an advantage over the Lions. Going into the break the Mount led Bluffton 33-31.
After Halftime the Mount was able to extend their lead again, outscoring the Beavers 15-13. The Mount offense was given a boost from Senior Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Mother of Mercy) who was able to score 8 points on a perfect 2-2 shooting from behind the 3-point line. The Mount closed out the game with a 13 point 4th Quarter, off of an impressive 50% shooting from behind the arc. The consistent offensive output in the 2nd half helped the Lions hang onto their lead for a 61-55 win.
All being told the Mount saw three players break into double digit scoring. Haberthy led the Lions in scoring with 21 points, while making a huge impact on the defensive end of the court with 5 steals. Jansen added 13 points while shooting 75% from the 3-point line and leading the team in both rebounding and assists, pulling down 7 boards and dishing out 4 assists. McCool was able to score 11 off of 3-5 shooting from three.
