Franklin Week!

The Lions Travel to Franklin in Search of their First Win

It's Rivalry Week as the Lions Travel to Franklin College!

Cincinnati, Ohio—In  heartbreaking fashion the Mount football program dropped their season opener to Rose-Hulman.  Looking to rebound from the first loss of the season and capture their first win, the Lions will be traveling to Franklin College.  The Grizzlies of Franklin College have served as one of the biggest rivals to the program over the past several years, and a game that every member of the roster looks forward to competing in.  Franklin has been a dominant power in the HCAC over past 10 years.  This domination has also been on display against the Lions, as they have won 9 out of the last 10.  When the two teams last met, during the 2019 season the Lions defeated the Grizzlies 50-27.

This season the Grizzlies will enter the match-up with a 2-0 record after opening the season up with wins over Anderson and Manchester Universities.  The Grizzlies have been very impressive offensively averaging 52.5 points per game.  The Franklin College defense has been able to force several turnovers in just two games, including 7 total interceptions.  While they have posted impressive stat lines, both of their games have came against opponents who have struggled combined for a total 0-4 record to date.  They closest game that Franklin has played came against the Ravens of Anderson University, pulling away with a 55-48 win in week one of HCAC competition.

The Lions enter this game with a 0-1 record after a tough loss in their season opener.  However the team has shown promise on both sides of the ball.  The Lions offense showcased a much improved run game, averaging 4.8 yards per carry for a team total of 163 yards.  This rushing attack saw touchdowns from Quarterback Josh Taylor and Running back Trevor Thome.  The Lions passing attack was efficient, throwing for 12.2 yards per completion during their only game.  The all around offensive attack allowed for the Lions to total 358 yards of total offense.  On the other side of the ball for the Lions have been able to force a turnover, coming off of a Troy Speakman interception.  Additionally Senior linebackers Jonathan Finn and Julius Fisher look to improve off of solid double digit tackling days against Rose-Hulman.

This game will take place on Saturday, March 20 at Faught Stadium, on the campus of Franklin College.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.  For continued coverage of this rivalry match-up and all other MSJ athletics continue to follow msjlions.com
