Lions Season Ends After Loss to Hanover in HCAC Semi-Finals

Box Score

CINCINNATI, Ohio-The Mount St. Joseph University Women's Basketball hosted Hanover College in the HCAC Semi-Finals.  The Lions were able to win in the first round of the tournament in a close game against Franklin.  The Lions ultimately fell short in a very hard fought match-up.

The Lions got off to a slow start allowing Hanover to get out to a 7-0 start before Carlee Daulton was able to hit a 3-pointer to open the Lions scoring, this score allowed the Lions to go on 12-4 run to close out the first quarter.  The Lions held a 12-11 lead at the end of the first.  In the 2nd the Lions fell behind getting outscored 14-9.  This gave Hanover the advantage heading into the break leading 25-21.

In the third quarter both teams were able to get hot offensively.  Maddie Haberthy was able to score 11 points in the quarter, after being held to just 1 point in the entire first half, her scoring output allowed the Lions to keep the game close heading into the 4th.  The Lions were able to cut the Hanover lead down to 2 points with 3:05 remaining in the game, thanks to an Aliyah Huff layup, however this was the closet that the Mount came to overcoming the lead that Hanover built.  Despite the Lions best efforts through the final minutes of play, they lost by a final score of 66-60.

The Mount had three players who were able to post double digit scoring totals for the evening.  Haberthy led the Lions in scoring with 23 points, off of 50% shooting from the floor while adding 4 assists and 3 steals.  Huff scored 13 while pulling down 7 rebounds in her final game for the Lions.  Haley Scott gave the Mount a much needed scoring boost off of the bench as she scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

This game was the final game of the Lions season.  They look forward to building off of their successful 7-2 season heading into next year with a very similar roster as they are only graduating two seniors.  For continued coverage of all Mount Athletics continue to follow msjlions.com
