Men's Volleyball Travels to Utica, New York to Compete in Four Game Tournament

Utica, New York—The Mount St. Joseph University Men's Volleyball program traveled to Utica New York to take part in a Friday-Saturday tournament at SUNY Poly.  The Lions were able to compete in four matches, in two days.  These matches saw the Lions compete with the likes of Baruch College, St. John Fishers College, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Nazareth College.  Two of these games saw the Lions compete again AVCA top 15 teams.  In these four competitions the Lions were able to come away with a win, defeating Baruch College in four sets. 

Match One Results: MSJ 3, Baruch 1 

    The first game of the tournament took place on Friday, January 21, against Baruch College.  The Lions were able to win in four sets, taking the first set 25-20, dropping the second set 25-13, winning the third set by a score of 25-18 and taking the fourth set 30-28.  This win pushed the Lions to (2-1) on the season.  

Notable Match One Performances:

    -Senior Jason Hascher led the team in kills, registering 17.  He did this while recording 

    9 digs and 2 assists.

    -Hayden Wood recorded 11 kills and 6 digs.

    -Ryan Bollhauer finished with 9 kills, while hitting an astonishing .500.      

Match Two Results: #11 St. John Fishers 3, MSJ 1

    The second game of the first evening, saw the Lions take on the AVCA #11 ranked Men's Volleyball program, St. John's Fishers.  The Lions put up a strong fight but fell just short in four matches.  

Notable Game Two Performances: 

    -Hascher posted another strong performance, finishing with 14 kills.

    -Craig Dannemiller had a great defensive showing, with 13 digs.

Match Three Results: #10 Wentworth 3, MSJ 0 

    Game Three saw the Lions continue to take on tough competition, playing #10 ranked Wentworth.  Facing a top ten opponent proved to be a challenge for the Lions, hanging in every set but ultimately dropping the game in straight sets.  

Notable Game Three Performances: 

    -Ben Carmosino finished this match with 10 digs and 17 assists.  

Match Four Results: Nazareth 3, MSJ 0

    The Lions dropped the fourth and final match of the tournament to Nazareth.  The Lions were able to hang in all three sets but still fell short.  

Notable Match Four Performances: 

    -Jason Hascher finished the fourth match with a team high 12 kills, while hitting 

    an impressive .500

    -Ben Carmosino completed the match with 27 assists and 3 digs
