Box Score ANDERSON, Ind. - On Saturday, December 3rd your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Anderson, Ind. to take on the Ravens of Anderson University. The Lions entered the contest without a win in the HCAC after dropping their opening game versus Bluffton. The Lions got off to a good start in their 2nd HCAC contest of the season jumping out to a 3 point lead heading into halftime. After the break, the Lions offense exploded for 26 points and held on in the fourth taking down Anderson 77-75.
In the first quarter each team wouldn't give an inch with the lead going back and forth. The lead changed 6 times as the squads battled for the first 10 minutes.
Morgan Jenkins got going early for the Lions scoring 5 points in the first quarter. The Lions looked like they would hold the lead before the 2nd quarter but a buzzer beater from Anderson's Lexi Dellinger tied the score at 17 before the break.
In the 2nd quarter the Lions started to build a lead. After falling behind by three to start the quarter
Karlee Mills and
Ellie Oldendick cut the Lions deficit after a pair of free throws from Oldendick and a 3 pointer from Mills.
Morgan Jenkins also joined the party adding a three of her own followed by another layup from Mills to give The Mount a 5 point lead with 1:59 remaining in the half. The Ravens would cut into the lead one more time before the break but, the Lions still held a 34-31 lead.
After halftime the Lions came out hot. The Lions surged out to an 11 point lead thanks to a pair of 3 point buckets from
Carlee Daulton and
Karlee Mills. With 6:48 to go in the 3rd the Lions held a 48-37 lead. But, the Ravens would come flying back and with just 1:27 remaining in the quarter, the Lions held just a 2 point advantage. Oldendick and Drummonds answered back and with a pair free throws from
Karlee Mills the Lions held a 6 point lead heading into the final quarter.
In the 4th quarter the Lions were tested. After jumping out to a 8 point lead to begin the half, The Mount found themselves battling back. With 2:39 remaining in the game, the Ravens would take the lead 75-73. After a free throw from
Ellie Oldendick the lead was cut to 75-74. On the defensive end of the floor
Morgan Jenkins came up huge for the Lions with a massive blocked shot to get the ball back. On the other end,
Karlee Mills drew a foul and got to the line for The Mount with the game on the line.
Mills stepped to the line and silenced the Raven crowd with a pair of successful free throws to put the Lions back on top, 76-75. After a turnover followed by a foul from Anderson,
Morgan Jenkins would step to the line for the Lions. Jenkins missed her 1st but nailed the 2nd to give the Lions a 2 point cushion with 14 seconds left. In the Ravens final possession, they would miss a pair of shots as the Lions held on to defeat Anderson, 77-75.
Karlee Mills led the way for the Lions leading the team with 18 points.
Morgan Jenkins was a force off the bench scoring 17 points while adding 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Also,
Madison Drummonds was efficient for the Lions. Drummonds finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for her 3rd Double-Double in 5 games.
