HANOVER, Ind. - On Saturday March 25th your Mount St. Joseph University track and field teams competed at the Hanover College Invitational. The Lions had event winners for both teams as the men's squad finished 5th out of 9 teams while the women's squad finished 4th out of 9 teams.
On the women's side
Grace Holtmeier got the Lions started with a solid finish in the 400M Dash. Holtmeier finished 5th with a time of 1:08.91 to jumpstart The Mount.
Kaylyn Mullins also scored points for the Lions in the running events taking home 4th Place in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 21.51s. Mullins also scored in Pole Vault. Mullins earned 4th Place in that event as well vaulting 1.91M.
The Lions were dominant in the field events starting with Freshman
Madalyn Hudnall. Hudnall first scored in the High Jump event as she captured 4th Place with a jump of 1.40M. Hudnall also added a 3rd Place finish in the Javelin Throw with a throw of 33.19M. Jill Wilhelm joined her in the Javelin Throw placing 2nd with an impressive throw of 35.97M. Wilhelm continued to shine in the Discus Throw with a 4th Place finishing throwing 36.67M. But, Wilhelm wasn't done earning another top 5 finish after finishing 5th in the Hammer Throw with a throw of 40.28M.
The Lions also dominated in the Long and Triple Jump.
Gabrielle Goerler took 4th Place for the Lions in Long Jump with a jump of 3.52M.
Londyn Frazier was also dominant taking 3rd Place in Long Jump with a jump of 4.04M. Frazier never slowed down as she lifted the Lions to their only event win on the weekend for the women's team. Frazier finished 1st in the Triple Jump with a great jump of 8.70M.
On the men's side,
Elliott Warner was impressive for The Mount. Warner got things started for the men's squad with impressive times in the 100M and 200M Dash. Warner finished 4th in the 100M Dash with a time of 11.46s and finished 5th in the 200M Dash with a time of 23.84s.
Chase Samples also scored for the Lions, this time in the 400M Dash. Samples finished as the runner-up with a great time of 52.51s. Both Warner and Samples also helped the Lions score in the 4x100M Relay. Joining them was
Jalen Range and
Kyle Evers Smith as the Lions took 2nd in the relay. The Lions barely missed the top spot finishing with a time of 44.01s, 3/10 of a second behind the winners.
Alex Schmidt also scored for the Lions. Schmidt competed in the 3000M Steeplechase taking 5th Place with a time of 11:33.28. The Lions also had 2 athletes place in the High Jump event. First, was
Will Cissell who took 4th Place with a jump of 1.70M. De'Andre Cowen was the event winner for the Lions capturing the only event win for the Lions men's squad. Coming off an impressive HCAC Indoor Championships meet, Cowen dominated the field. Cowen jumped 1.80M taking home the High Jump win.Â
In the throwing events, the Lions impressed again.
Decklan Brophy led the way for the Lions starting with a 6th Place finish in Shot Put with a throw of 11.83M. Brophy also added a 7th Place finish in Discus with a throw of 35.57M. Brophy's most impressive event was the Javelin. Brophy just missed the top spot finishing as the runner-up with a throw of 43.27M.
Jack Tucker and
Austin Womack also scored points for the Lions in the Javelin event. Tucker finished 5th with a throw of 39.44M while Womack finished 6th with a throw of 36.11M.
