Lions Shine on Senior Day at MSJ Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, April 23rd your Mount St. Joseph University track and field teams hosted the MSJ Invitational. The Lions dominated with the Lions women's team taking 2nd Place and the Lions men's team taking 1st Place out of 6 teams each.

On the women's side, the throwers got off to a hot start. Jill Wilhelm led the way for the Lions throws squad taking 2nd Place in the Shot Put with a mark of 11.21M. Following just behind Wilhelm was fellow Freshman Madalyn Hudnall. Hudnall took 3rd Place in Shot Put with a mark of 10.94M. In the Discus event, Wilhelm shined again for the Lions. Wilhelm finished in 2nd Place with a mark of 37.65M. Freshman Lizzie Gil also put together a good throw finishing in 5th Place with a mark of 31.66M. In the Javelin event, The Mount dominated. Wilhelm again found herself at the top of the field this time taking 1st Place with a throw of 39.61M. With that mark, Wilhelm now leads the HCAC heading into the HCAC Outdoor Championships. Following Wilhelm was Hudnall who took 2nd Place with a mark of 36.25M. Gil also was productive taking 4th Place with a mark of 26.32M. 

In the jump events, the Lions also prospered. Londyn Frazier got things started for the Lions taking 5th Place in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.16M. Frazier also found the podium in the Triple Jump. Frazier took 2nd Place in the event finishing with a mark of 9.18M. Madalyn Hudnall also was impressive for the Lions. After shuffling over from her throwing events, Hudnall competed in the High Jump event. Hudnall was impressive finishing in 2nd Place with a mark of 1.38M. The Lions also shined in the Pole Vault event. Graduate Student Ashley Klosterman took home the gold, finishing in 1st Place with a mark of 2.28M. Following Klosterman was Freshman Kaylyn Mullins who took 2nd Place with a mark of 2.13M. 

In addition to her 1st Place finish in Pole Vault, Klosterman had an impressive day. Klosterman also took home gold in the 400M Hurdles event. She finished with a time of 1:11.67 to take home 1st Place. In the 100M Hurdles Klosterman also scored points for the Lions. Klosterman took home 4th Place in the event with a time of 18.40s. But, Klosterman wasn't done yet helping the Lions 4x400M Relay team take 2nd Place. Klosterman was joined by Julia Gooding, Hannah Morgan and Kayla Hess as they finished with a time of 4:37.49. 

Morgan and Hess also shined in the 1500M Run. The pairing took 3rd and 4th Place respectively in the race finishing with times of 5:30.27 and 5:40.36. Julia Gooding also added more points for the Lions. Gooding took home 3rd Place in the 400M Dash with a time of 1:04.83. Isabella Calhoun also found the podium for The Mount. Calhoun finished in 3rd Place in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 18.05s. 

On the men's side, the throwers provided some spark at the start of the meet. Decklan Brophy and Dylan Sebastian both scored for the Lions in the Javelin Throw. Brophy took home 4th Place with a mark of 43.62M while Sebastian took home 6th Place with a mark of 42.10M. But, the Lions weren't done in the field as the Lions dominanted the jump events. Justin Dreyling stole the show for the Lions with another dominating performance. In the Long Jump event, Dreyling took home 1st Place with a HCAC best jump of 7.03M. Mariano McKenzie also scored for the Lions in the event taking 5th Place with a mark of 6.10M. In the Triple Jump event, Dreyling shined again taking 1st Place with a HCAC best jump of 14.33M. In the Pole Vault event, the Lions once again found gold. Dylan Hammons led the charge for the Lions taking 1st Place with a jump of 3.05M. In the High Jump event, Will Cissell scored for the Lions. Cissell just missed the top spot taking 2nd Place with a jump of 1.77M. 

In the running events, the Lions got off to a quick start. In the first race of the day the Lions 4x100M Relay took home gold. Kyle Evers Smith, Justin Dreyling, Elliott Warner and Jalen Range all combined to get the Lions 1st Place with a time of 43s to start the meet off right. Chase Samples was the next Lion to score and he did in a big way. Samples clocked a season-best 400M Dash time to take home the title in the race. Samples took 1st Place with a time of 50.45. Samples wasn't done yet as he also scored in the 200M Dash. Samples finished in 6th Place with a time of 23.38s. 

3 other Lions also scored in the 200M Dash, as The Mount cluttered the leaderboard. Elliott Warner was impressive taking 2nd Place with a time of 23s. Jalen Range and Kyle Evers Smith both followed Samples finishing in 7th and 8th Place respectively. But, Range, Warner and Evers Smith all scored again in the 100M Dash. Range was the one on top this time taking 3rd Place with a time of 11.39s. Warner and Evers Smith followed with times of 11.47 and 11.64 to take 5th and 7th Place respectively. 

Jacob Miller then led the way for the longer races on the day. Miller took home 2nd Place in the 800M Run with a time of 2:03.14. The Lions dominated in the Steeplechase as Alex Schmidt and MItch Reveal led the way. Schmidt took home 1st Place with a time of 10:58.29 while Reveal followed in 2nd Place with a time of 12:06.75. To close out the day, the Lions were impressive in the 4x400M Relay. Jacob Miller, Logan Runyan, Alex Schmidt and Will Cissell combined for a 2nd Place finish with a time of 3:46.80. 

UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action next weekend April 28th and 29th as the Lions compete at the HCAC Outdoor Championships. The Championships are being hosted by Franklin College in Franklin, Ind. as Day One events begin at 3pm while day two events begin at 9am.
