BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On Friday, May 5th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions track and field teams traveled to DI Indiana University to compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational. The Lions shined against tough competition in hopes of qualifying for NCAA DIII Nationals.

Justin Dreyling led the way for the Lions as they found success against DI talent.
Jill Wilhelm and
Madalyn Hudnall got the meet started off with a bang for the Lions. Both student-athletes were impressive competing against Indiana, Miami (OH), Butler and others. Both athletes competed in the Javelin Throw event with Hudnall finishing in 4th Place. The Freshman finished with a mark of 36.41M setting the bar for the Lions. Fellow Freshman,
Jill Wilhelm followed with a personal best throw. Wilhelm took home the top mark finishing in 1st Place with a throw of 40.32M. With that throw, Wilhelm now sits at 22nd in DIII with hopes of qualifying for the national meet.
On the men's side,
Justin Dreyling was also impressive for the navy and gold. Dreyling got his day started in the Long Jump event. Dreyling set a season best jump of 7.19M earning him 4th Place. That mark ranks him 26th in DIII. But, he wasn't done yet as Dreyling also competed in the Triple Jump event. Dreyling was dominant in the Triple Jump posting another season best jump. Dreyling finished with a mark of 15.05M which earned him a 2nd Place finish. That mark also gets Dreyling into the Top 10 of DIII taking him all the way to 7th in the country.
Alex Schmidt also posted an impressive time for the Lions over the weekend. The Sophomore broke a school record in the 3000M Steeplechase for the Lions. Schmidt finished in 5th Place with a time of 10:42.88 setting the new record for the Lions.
