CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph football team will head into this weekends matchup with Manchester hoping to bounce back after a loss their last time out. On Saturday they will open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play by welcoming the Manchester Spartans to Delhi and Schueler Field.
It was heartbreak two weeks ago in the Lions final non-conference game of the season on the road at Hope. The Lions looked like they were running away with the game early in that matchup racing out to a 14-0 lead. Hope then answered with 28 unanswered points of their own to put the Lions in a major deficit for the first time this season. They fought back and even took a fourth quarter lead at 35-34, Hope would answer back to take a 40-35 lead. The Mount got the ball back in the final minutes and put together a drive that got them into scoring position but were unable to punch the ball in the endzone. Falling for the first time in 13 regular season games.
They will be trying to bounce back today vs. a Manchester squad that has gotten off to a rough start this season under first year head coach Vann Hunt. The Spartans have been outscored 154-7 so far this season and are 0-3 coming into this weekends game.
Over the last 10 meetings between the two schools the Lions hold a 9-1 edge in the series, the lone loss came in 2015. Over the last two meetings the Mount has outscored the Spartans 83-20.
Saturday's game is scheduled to kickoff at 1:30 PM at Schueler Field!
